Onco-Psychology
Cancer doesn’t just affect the body, it touches every part of a woman’s emotional, mental, and social world. At Apollo Athenaa Women’s Cancer Centre, onco-psychology is a core component of holistic cancer care. Our goal is to support women as they navigate the uncertainty, fear, and life changes that come with a diagnosis and its treatment.
Support During Treatment
Many women experience a range of emotional and psychological responses at different stages of their journey:
- Anxiety and fear of disease progression
- Depression, mood swings, or emotional numbness
- Difficulty coping with body image changes
- Sleep disturbances or fatigue linked to stress
- Guilt, anger, or grief over lost fertility or altered life plans
- Challenges in communicating with partners or children
Our trained psycho-oncologists provide:
- One-on-one counselling sessions to address emotional distress
- Supportive therapy for caregivers and families
- Guidance on stress management and coping skills
- Mindfulness-based strategies to reduce anxiety
- Referral to psychiatric care when needed for medication support
All care is delivered in a non-judgmental, confidential space with warmth, respect, and clinical skill.
Post-Treatment & Survivorship Care
Even after active treatment ends, psychological recovery continues. Survivors often face fear of recurrence, difficulty adjusting to a "new normal", lingering sadness or post-traumatic stress, and relationship or intimacy issues.
We offer:
- Long-term emotional support through follow-up counselling
- Workshops and support groups for shared healing
- Body image and self-esteem rebuilding
- Tools to reintegrate into daily life or work
Our psycho-oncology team helps women rebuild emotional resilience, reconnect with joy, and make meaning from their cancer experience.
