Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad has completed 20 stem cell transplants for different diseases successfully. The hospital has also done the first successful “Autologous Stem Cell Transplant (Stem Cells collected from one’s own body) for Acute Leukemia” in Gujarat. Dr Chirag Shah, Director, Department of Hematology, oncology, stem cell transplant, Apollo Hospitals, has also performed maximum number of transplants in private sector in the state. Atleast one transplant per month is performed with over 90 per cent success rate with regard to hospital discharges. This is the only private hospital in the region performing regular transplants for conditions. We are creating a larger 6 bed state-of-the-art stem cell transplant unit, as our work has been growing steadily in this field, including a number of international patients. The Hospital has related diagnostic and therapeutic services under one roof to provide better quality of care and patient convenience, which includes advanced laboratories and radiology services like 1.5 Tesla MRI 64 Slice CT Scan, interventional radiology services and others.

Apollo Hospitals Educational and Research Centre (AHERF), under the aegis of Apollo Hospitals, has set up Cell and Molecular Biology Research Center (CMBRC), which will be involved in stem cell research and clinical trials, in its Jubilee Hills campus here. The Centre plans to initially use bone marrow, placental and umbilical cord-derived stem cells, both for research and for clinical trials in certain key areas like Critical Limb Ischemia, Cerebral Palsy and Stroke. It also intends to use stem cells in research and in the therapy of several diseases like Cardiovascular, Neurodegenerative disorders and diabetes, a press release here said. CMBRC is collaborating with StemCyte, USA, for the use of umbilical cord blood cells. The Center has all the facilities and equipment for mammalian cell culture, cryopreservation and equipment used in Cell and Molecular Biology Research. Worldwide, there is an increasing interest in stem cells and their ability to improve diseased conditions in vivo (in animals and in initial human clinical trials).

The Apollo Hospitals Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Union Government to set up “Central Government Health Scheme – Apollo Dialysis Clinics”. The Apollo Hospitals Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Union Government to set up “Central Government Health Scheme – Apollo Dialysis Clinics”. The first such unit will be launched at the CGHS wellness centre in Sadiq Nagar here as a pilot project and will provide specialised services to kidney patients enrolled under the CGHS. This centre is expected to become functional by June this year. The service will be provided by Alliance Medicorp Limited (AML), a joint venture company of Apollo Health and Lifestyle Ltd (AHLL) which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Apollo Hospital Group. As per the agreement, AML would be providing state-of-the-art set-up, machinery and expert manpower at CGHS wellness centres spread across the country.
