About Dr Prakash M Ludhani

Dr. Prakash M. Ludhani is a highly experienced Cardiothoracic Surgeon with over 14 years of expertise in managing both routine and complex cardiac cases. Dr Prakash (Regn. No. 65880) is a Senior Consultant, Heart & Lung Transplantation and MCS at Institutes of Heart - Lung Transplant & MCS, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. His areas of specialization include Heart and Lung Transplantation, as well as Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS).

He completed his MBBS and MS in Gujarat, followed by MCh and DNB in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery from CMC Vellore. Dr. Ludhani further enhanced his expertise through international fellowships in Advanced Adult Cardiac Surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and in Heart-Lung Transplantation and MCS at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney.

After returning to India, Dr. Ludhani played a pivotal role in developing heart transplant programs at leading institutions including U. N. Mehta Institute (Ahmedabad), MIOT International (Chennai), MGM Hospital (Chennai), and Sparsh Hospitals (Bengaluru).

He has been honored with the prestigious G.C. Sharma Fellowship by the IACTS and received an award for academic excellence from the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Deeply committed to advancing academic research, Dr. Ludhani has contributed to national and international journals and serves as a reviewer for the Annals of Thoracic Surgery. His clinical interests include heart and lung transplantation, and circulatory assist devices.

Experience

With over 14+ years of experience in surgery, Dr Prakash M. Ludhani began with a Senior House Surgeon in Cardiothoracic Surgery, followed by general surgery registrar roles for 4 years. This progressed into cardiothoracic surgery registrar and tutor positions for nearly 4 years, including senior registrar roles. The individual then served as a Junior Cardiac Consultant, followed by international fellowships in Advanced Cardiothoracic Surgery, Heart & Lung Transplant, and MCS in Australia. From 2019 onward, took up successive Senior Consultant roles in Cardiothoracic and Transplant Surgery, including an Assistant Professor position. Most recently, he has been functioning as a Senior Consultant & Transplant Surgeon at leading institutions since late 2023, continuing to build on deep expertise in cardiac and thoracic transplantation and advanced surgical care.
